Facilities at Mackay District Special School focus on ensuring the provision of multiple and varied opportunities for students to access and engage in the curriculum. The diverse range of information and communication technology (ICT) devices includes computers with adaptive software and access equipment, augmentative and assistive communication (AAC) devices, including iPads and iDevices along with interactive white boards, show the school’s commitment to integrating ICT into the curriculum.
Playground equipment, including a wheelchair swing, has been designed and located across the school to provide active spaces in which to foster the Smart Moves programs.
A new indoor heated therapy pool is presently being built as part of the Building Education Revolution program. It is expected to be fully functional at the beginning of the 2012 school year. All students will access water familiarisation programs including hydrotherapy and water aerobics.
